WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CADETS
To all concerned federations and persons,

FMJD have the honour to inform you that the World Championship for Cadets
( boys born after 31.12.1984 ) will be held from 12 ( arrival day ) till
22 December 2001 in the Chess and Draughts Palace in Minsk ( Belarus ).

At the suggestion of several federations, the FMJD has decided to modify
the inscription system for the tournament and enlarge the number of
participants. Every federation may inscribe now up to 3 players.

The number one inscription of each federation will play in the tournament
and his stay will be taken in charge of the organisation.
Numbers 2 and 3 from each federation may play in the championship as well,
but their costs of staying ( hotel and meal) should be covered by themselves
(i.c. their federations ).

The Belarus organisation committee guarantees to take in their charge 20
players ( minimum one per federation ). That means that in case of
participation of less than 18 countries some numbers 2 may also be taken
in charge of organisation.
The order of those federation for which the cost of the additional player
will be paid, is based on results of the last World championships for cadets,
starting from 2000 and backward.

As usual two (2) places in the championship are given on personal basis :
to organising country (Belarus) and sponsor's place (B.Derkx from Holland)*.

Costs of stay: Organisation Committee offers hotel plus full meals for the
price of 15$ per person per day. For any other possibilities please contact
the organisation.
( Belarussian Draughts federation : K. Marks, 10, 220050 Minsk, Belarus.
Tel.( Fax ): +375 172 272 258 e-mail: belarus@fmjd.org )

As usual, travel and visa costs as well as costs of accompanying persons,
coaches and officials have to be covered by federations themselves. The
inscription fee to the FMJD is 100 NLG ( one hundred Dutch Guilders ) per
participant and as usual has to be received by FMJD ( via bank transfer
or cash on arrival ) before the beginning of the championship.

The tournament will be played using the Swiss system in 9 rounds.
The program of the tournament and all relevant details will be sent
to you later. Due to the problems of organising this particular tournament,
this information is coming to you quite late ( our apologies ) but
still we have to have your inscription no later than 20 November.
Please be so kind to send your inscription before that date, with
names and birthdays of players, and possibly of coaches. Please inform
whether you need the visa to go to Belarus and if yes - please include
passport numbers of all persons planning to come.

If you need to have a formal invitation for visa (or sponsoring) purposes
please feel free to contact the FMJD office. All necessary help will be
provided.

A. Presman, Director of tournaments-100 FMJD

* Personal places do not decrease the quota of the concerned country.

Match: Samb-Buggy.

The end of the 2nd set The last official game of the match ended in a draw after a very special gambit by Buggy. N'Diaga Samb had some advantage but there seemed to be no way to change it into a win. Then, a tie-break had to be played. 6 games were drawn, and finally, the human Grand-Master won the 7th game. Game, Set and Match N'Diaga Samb !!!! We wish to congratulate N'Diaga Samb for his victory, and his high level of play. We also want to thank the sponsors of the match (Le Damier de l'OpÈra, Kolsloot, Turbo Dambase), Wieger Wesselink, Jacky Bruiant, the organizing committee of the France championship, and all the supporters that followed the games on the Internet. We sincerely hope that you enjoyed the match.

Match: Samb-Buggy.
Set 2 Game 2 : Sumb-Buggy 1-1
For a long while, this game looked like the first one of the match.
N'Diaga Samb put the 24 piece under pressure and the program could not find
a satisfactory defense. The Senegalese Grand-Master threatened to promote
rapidly one of its pieces. But Buggy launched a counter-attack in the center
that arrived just on time to get the draw. The strong defense 47-48-49 was
not enough to avoid it. However, it is very likely that Samb missed one or
several very strong moves that would have given him the win.

Match: Samb-Buggy.
Set 2 Game 1 : Buggy-Samb 1-1

After 27 moves, it seemed that the game would end in a classical position.
But N’Diaga Samb, by playing an interesting 28th move, looked for an advantage
in a more difficult type of position. A few moves later, the human player had
spent most of its time (he thought for 20 minutes on one move), and was left
with an inferior position. With only ten minutes before the 50th move, N’Diaga
Samb was in serious trouble. He finally made a mistake and gave Buggy the
opportunity to win. It seems very likely that Buggy missed the winning move
twice (49th and 57th moves). The game ended in a draw : another disappointing
result for the Buggy’s team.

Match: Samb-Buggy.
Last information.
Samb wins the first set 4-2 (2-0, 1-1, 1-1)
As yesterday, Buggy was set in " Go for the win " mode. The computer
quickly took the initiative. For a long time however, it seemed that Buggy
only had a slighly better position. But he managed to take profit of Samb's
weak right wing and was once again very close to the win. N'Diaga found the
way to the draw but this time again, he can be very happy with the peaceful
result.
This game allows N'Diaga Samb to win the first set. But after the last
two games, it is possible that the computer has taken some psychological
advantage over the human player. We will see what happens next.
Next game starts at 08h30 tomorrow.

First Lithuanian Open russian draughts championship via e-mail is planned
to run. Registration address is vlava@delfi.lt

Championship`s referee Vladas Valantinas wrote:

You have to denote your name, email, drought sport rank. The start list of
championship participants will be formed according to given tenders. If the
number of tenders will be less than 30 then only one tournament will be kept,
otherwise two leagues (1st and 2d) might be established. In the beginning
the participation fee is 12 litas (3 USD). Participation fee will be used for
arbitration expenses. Prizes depends on sponsors. The participation fee must
be send only after receiving official announcement about including into
championship. I believe that besides Lithuanian players many foreign droughts
players will participate too. So far the championship regulations are under
construction.

Golden Prague - 2001
   Dear Sirs,
the Czech Draughts Federation organizes the 21st Year of the traditional
international Golden Prague draughts tournament. This year in the frame of
Central European Mind Sports Olympiad as its main event. The most recent
version of the program (in English) of all draughts events is enclosed to
this message in MS Word document (formatted for one page) and its draft copy
is a part of this message itself below.
We would like to ask the players and other people willing to come and play
to contact us soon (maybe, to be sure, even if you did so earlier). Golden
Prague is an open tournament. We prefer to be informed earlier than on July
1st registration, however, all "last minute comers" were admitted into
competition in all previous years and are welcome as well.
We are trying to inform as many players as possible. An apology must follow
to those who are not interested in contents of this message and were involved
into our mailing.
Please, inform your clubs and friends (who are not involved in our
maillist), especially if you know any player from Australia or Antarctica -
the only two continents never represented in 20 years history of the
tournament.

Yours sincerely,
Lumir Gatnar
secretary of the Czech Draughts Federation

News from Samara
There are comments from R.Klimashov about the status of
tournament in Samara:
The tournament which is taking place in Samara, will be carried
out(spent) under aegis MARSH (the International association of Russian
checkers(draughts) ).
Use of symbolics FMJD on an emblem is a mistake of organizers of
tournament which up to last moment hoped on understanding FMJD in the
approach to this question.
